When Arjuna told prof. Dronacharya that all he could see was the eye of the bird and noting else, did he mean it literally..??!!…or is the answer to that…’obviously not…’?!!….hmmmm….
Technically speaking, after all, what does it take to hit bull’s eye. Just raise your arm to the level of the eye, align the sight of the gun, your eye and the bull’s eye to be in one straight line and then take your shot….’that’s all…’??!!…does the simplicity in stating the way to execute make the goal any easier?. All those who have tried it will surely know that, this ease is just an illusion. Our brain is the only physical part of our body that can do all these math, unfortunately our brain can hardly do anything by itself….
Before starting to cook let us first have a look at the key ingredients. Or in other words, prerequisites to hit Bull’s eye:
1> intent
2>mental strength, perseverance: getting over the demotivating factor of the possibility of you not getting there at all, while you’re aiming. It might only be mature to be practical in your approach and think about for what you’re doing it?, do you really want it?, will you really get there?, but when you have taken stance to aim, it’s not the time for all these thoughts .
3>physical fitness!!?…yep…try holding up a book or something like you would hold a gun and see for how long you can keep it steady, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
All the three mentioned above work together to achieve one common goal….to attain a state of concentration. The human mind is much faster, smarter, intelligent and clever than the human himself, its the seat of the human skill. Concentrating is all about freeing the mind from everything else but for the purpose you want to use it for and giving over the control of your complete body to it….how much conscious effort does it take to get attain concentration??!!…i don’t really know…
With all this said, can we now hit bull’s eye??!!… Then how is it that we actually get there… the answer is trivial. Practice, practice, practice….. practice till you can strike at will with the least of efforts…
So there’s no way anyone can do it at first shot??… I would say “impossible”. Just in case anyone happens to do it….while he stands there raising his gun in triumph and so filled with pride, while all the people watching are amazed, I would say “you moron….you never hit bull’s eye….the bullet did….you haven’t got it till you worked for it….you fool…”.
So where does the factor of inherit skill come in??..so anybody can do it..??!!…well…skill just makes you get there faster, also, it is the inherited instincts that gives the drive to keep going. As far as the second question is concerned I don’t have an answer…
After all the work comes the time for deliverance/performance. He is given 4 shots to hit, having missed the 1st 2 times he takes center stage again. He takes his stance and holds up his gun to strike .He then takes time…time just enough to get over all thoughts, to get over the complacency, to overcome fear but still less enough to avoid mental and physical fatigue, till the time when ‘all that he can see is the bull’s eye’ and then taking his final breath before the shot, he pulls the trigger….
There is the moment he hits the target, that is the moment he conquers the world, that is the moment he conquers himself, that is the moment he punches the air and says “BULLSEYE”….
P.S: I’m no shooter neither am i any sports psychologist myself, so just in case any of these qualified people happen to read this post please to comment if I have, technically, made any blunders. After all even I would want to know, in my efforts of expressing thoughts metaphorically, in the process of using bull’s eye, how much bullshit have I written in reality.
